Alaskan Mother
Dawn ignites as if on her command,
A golden blaze warming frosted stone.
Her breath a slow mist as she peers over land,
The vastness hers, and hers alone.
Through sedge meadows, the morning hums,
Her cubs trail close, their steps unsure.
The rivers gleam, her heart a steady drum—
Wild spirit, fierce, untamed, and pure.
The sun climbs high above the peaks,
She grazes through the morning light.
They nurse in warmth where marshlands meet
The forest edge, their sacred site.
Low tide calls them to the shore,
Where clams lie buried in the sand.
She teaches them the ancient lore
Of digging treasures from the land.
As twilight finds the mountain's rim,
She leads through evergreen's shade.
The moon rises, day growing dim,
Their path by ancient ways was laid.
