Arizona Mountains

Aisling of the high country,
silver at her throat,
spoke to me of everything
until the stars began to float.

Promises carved in pine bark,
plans traced across stone,
“Meet me here tomorrow”
but tomorrow I came alone.

I climb Arizona mountains,
my heart on every trail,
searching for the mirage
who told me half her tale.

Summer light through branches
bends the way she smiled.
Aisling of the high country,
forest dreams unreconciled.

Aisling of the high country
silver at her throat,
spoke to me of everything
until the stars began to float.
