Inauguration Day

Inauguration Day
They told us wisdom blooms with age,
like autumn fruit on patient boughs.
But we watch the supposed wise wage
sandbox wars in gilded throne rooms.
My grandfather read the winter wind,
and lightning's temper in summer.
Now wannabes stumble through tweets,
passing gold-plated lies.
Crops refuse to root when betrayed,
a hawk won't return to a broken branch.
Power twists the hearts of those
who trade a garden for gold.
