When President John Kemeny joined Dartmouth College in 1971, he began an initiative to tackle the lack of educational opportunities for Native Americans.
In the years since, Dartmouth has developed a strong Native American community with an active Native American Program. More Native Americans have now graduated from Dartmouth than all the other Ivy League schools combined.
The Dartmouth Powwow started in 1972 and has grown steadily into a major destination event with people from across the country attending for the two day gathering.
These portraits feature Dartmouth NAP volunteers, students, and powwow participants from the 47th annual Dartmouth Powwow.
