Without Disguise

Decades and oceans between us, distance makes us brave,
We met in passing one time and never looked away.

Between your soft midnight and my morning bright,
We speak in prayers through stars' shimmering light.

Words drift like dry leaves, steady in their aim,
Carrying hopes we could never fully name.

No titles, no duty, no masks to maintain,
I send you my hunger, unresolved and plain.

You gift me your sorrows and speak them by name,
Grief is less burden with no crosses to claim.

Tales of want and wonder, of spirit and skin,
Fly with ravens and eagles over mountains on wind.

Some truths land softly in ways only you can see,
Your messages an altar, receiving all of me.

The stillness when we say nothing composes its chord,
Not absence, but silence too sacred to record.

My beloved, this is why we write without disguise,
Never seeing our honesty in each other's eyes.
